Dr. Taylor is a licensed professional counselor in West Virginia and has worked for eighteen years counseling individuals, couples, and families. She is an approved licensed professional supervisor and registered nurse. Dr. Taylor is a member of the American Counseling Association and the West Virginia Counseling Association. Prior to earning her doctoral degree in counseling psychology from West Virginia University, Dr. Taylor worked as a RN in psychiatric intensive care and clinical management. Her specialty areas include anxiety, depression, bereavement and loss, parenting, couples, conflict management, trauma, medical issues, and mindfulness-based stress reduction. In addition to her therapy and nursing experience, Dr. Taylor has taught in higher education for twenty years at Fairmont State, Alderson Broaddus and West Virginia University teaching courses in psychology, counseling, criminal justice, marriage and family, and child development. In January 2018 Dr. Taylor became director of Morgantown Counseling Center, MPCC.
Dr. Yura is a licensed psychologist in West Virginia and has worked for thirty-eight years counseling individuals, couples, families and adolescents. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and the West Virginia Psychological Association and her specialty includes anxiety, depression, eating disorders, grief counseling, parenting, couples, men's and women's issues, trauma issues and mindfulness. She is trained in Adlerian therapy, cognitive behavioral, solution focused, trauma focused and family and marital counseling. In addition to her therapy experience, Dr. Yura has worked in a number of mental health roles, both inpatient and outpatient settings in West Virginia and Maryland. She worked with young adults for thirty-seven years at West Virginia University’s Counseling Center and directed the Center for seventeen years. She was the Assistant Vice President of WELLWVU: The Students’ Center of Health and currently is directing the WVU Collegiate Recovery Program at WVU.
In addition to her work experience, Dr. Yura has conducted presentations on violence alternative programs, workplace violence, juvenile foster care, communication skills, and community crisis, and has been asked to speak at events such as the WV Summit on Homeland Security, WV Education Summit, National Association for Student Personnel and Association of Public and Land-grant Universities.
Dr. Newfield is a licensed independent social worker who holds a Diplomate in Clinical Social Work and is a member of the Academy of Certified Social Works. His doctorate is in marriage and family therapy and he is a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. Past experience includes inpatient and outpatient therapy as a faculty member with the WVU Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry and teaching individual, group, and family therapy for the WVU School of Social Work for 30 years as a tenured faculty member. He holds an Emeritus appointment with the School of Social Work and is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychology. In Psychology, for a period of time he supervised a team of psychology and social work graduate students as well as carried a practice in the Quin Curtis Center which is the psychology clinic at WVU.
Dr. Newfield trained in Strategic Therapy at the Washington Family Therapy Institute and prefers to work with people briefly using Solution Focused and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. He has practiced Zen mindfulness and meditation for nine years and integrates these practices into his work with people along with hypnosis. Areas of practice and specialty include: anxiety, depression, stress reduction, couple and marital conflicts, family issues, divorce adjustment, grief/loss, and cross cultural work.
Dr. Newfield is available to supervise social workers seeking higher levels of licensure and all clinicians seeing membership in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. He has taught for 15 years at An Giang University in Vietnam during the Summer. This is through an Institute on mental health issues that he directs. Dr. Newfield also continues to be a workshop presenter in the U.S. as well.
Oliver is 2 years old. He has been working in our office as a therapy support dog and is available upon request. Oliver loves being responsive and working with children and adults. In his spare time he likes to hang out with his sister Piper and play catch.
